Green Chicken Quinoa Puree

I made this recipe while I was cooking up a storm (aka making a HUGE mess) and filling up the freezer with more food for George.  So it all came together with a little bit of this and a little bit of that.  Turned out pretty yum, well George seemed to think so anyway, gobbling it all up.

Nutrition Note:  Quinoa is a grain that is very easily digested, giving it another reason why its great for babies and toddler

I found the recipe really bland. I had to add salt n pepper, herbs & some unsealed butter to try & give it some flavour.

      Hi Melissa,
Thank you for your feedback. Herbs are a great way to add flavour to meals and I have made variations of this meal using herbs too. However, it is important to remember babies have very sensitive taste buds so while it may taste bland to you your baby may find it full of flavour. Also, in Australia and New Zealand salt is not allowed as an ingredient in packaged food for babies under 12 months so its important that you don’t add any salt to their home cooked meals either. You can read more about salt and babies here… https://ohcooks.wpengine.com/why-babies-and-toddlers-dont-need-salt/. Thank you again for your feedback, we hope you have tried and enjoyed some other recipes on our blog. J x

Hi, this looks great but I’m just wondering if leek is tolerated well in little babies (7 months)? I don’t want to cause gas/discomfort in my LO! Thanks 🙂

Hi Steph, yes leeks are usually well tolerated in babies as they are low in naturally occurring chemicals that are found in food. If you are at all concerned you could either omit or reduce the quantity. Enjoy, Jx

Hi. I’m really struggling with a fussy 18 month old. Do you think this meal is too basic for that age? It looks like it could be a safe no fail option! For some reason food with a lot of texture is ending up on the floor!

I have no idea how this one got a 4/5 rating. An absolute waste of my precious time and the above ingredients. My 10-month old hated it, even after I added some grated Parmesan and herbs to improve the bland taste, he only eat a few spoonfuls. Had to save lunch with a sandwich. And honestly, I tried it, have you? I wouldn’t eat it myself.

I am 70 years young and on a purée diet. I had no issues with this recipe. Instead of water I added broth.

I think the recipe is pretty good, but I did switch the water with homemade chicken broth. That might have made it a bit less bland without being unhealthy for babies.

Both of our babies have loved this recipe…it has been the first protein meal I’ve given them each time and they have me going back for seconds and thirds! Thanks guys for all of the amazing inspiration for our little ones.

Great puree for my 6MO. Love the quinoa in there for some protein. Perfect recipe when starting the solids journey, thank you.

Can I use uncooked quinoa and slow cook everything? (Adjusting for water.)
