AUTUMN/BACK TO SCHOOL 2015
Our Back-to-school issue is all about portable and healthy snacks for kids. Whether it is day-care, pre-school, school or just snacking while out and about we have some great healthy ideas for you to try. Keeping our children hydrated and offering a variety of fresh food is one way to keep their energy levels high and the learning and play time enjoyable.
We understand that managing food allergies and intolerances when out and about can be challenging, so we hope you find our allergy friendly lunchbox ideas offer some inspiration. We have also included a great chapter on freezable snack ideas. Frozen lunchbox snacks are a great way to ensure your child has something delicious in their lunchbox every day and takes the pressure off you on those buys school mornings.
All your favourite chapters are back, including 1 meal 3 ways, pick ‘n’ mix, tasting plate and starting solids. We focus on the importance of variety and how to keep things interesting for your baby, toddler and school aged children. Our seasonal food this issue is a celebration of eggplant and four wonderful ways to enjoy it. Plus you can read all about oats, a cheap, nutritious and staple food that can be enjoyed so many different ways.
We are really excited to share with you our new chapter ‘boosting basics’. Here we inspire you to get more out of your basic meals. Transform the weeknight favourites; Bolognese, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets and even choc chip biscuits to get the most out of them nutritionally. Keep us updated on what works and what basics you would like to see boosted by our resident dietitian.
Thank you for your feedback on our Facebook page. We heard you and have included some more great budget meals, fast food ideas and a new one-pot wonder. We also heard you loved our cooking with kids ‘Pizza Night’, so have had a ball creating a pasta night for kids. Making your own pasta is so much fun. Please post photos of your kids cooking on Instagram using the hash tag #onehandedcooks. Keep the feedback coming so we can continue dishing out the good stuff.
