Does anyone else feel the same nervous anticipation as I do when trying new foods with their bub? Over the past couple of weeks I have started introducing some legumes and different grains to George and varying the texture of his food.  So far so good!  I mixed some of this lentil and veggie mash with some pumpkin puree for George and to my delight he loved it.

Tip:   To make a more creamy/smoother mash – puree half of the mixture, mash the remaining mixuture and combine together.

Nutrition Note:  When buying canned lentils or legumes look out for ‘no added salt’ varieties.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup tinned brown lentils (no added salt), drained and rinsed
  • 2 cups pick 'n' mix vegetables, chopped
  • (Pick 'n' Mix Options: pumpkin, carrot, potato, sweet potato, spinach, zucchini, peas)

Method

Step 1

Steam the vegetables for 5-15 minutes (cooking time will depend on what vegetables you have chosen) or until they are soft. -

Step 2

Place the cooked vegetables in a bowl with the lentils and mash (or puree) until you have your desired texture. -

Step 3

Serve the mash on its own or mixed with other puree vegetables to get a smoother/creamier texture. -
