Coming Soon: Fill Your Freezer Challenge

A full freezer, packed with healthy homemade delights and family meals always gives me a feel good feeling.  Knowing that I can have George’s dinner ready in just a few minutes by defrosting a meal and combining it with some fresh ingredients or finger foods keeps both of us happy and meal times are relaxed.  For Charlie and I, knowing we have some yummy homemade meals helps with managing our food budget, avoiding those expensive and often unhealthy takeaway meals or when we have a busy week with little time to prepare and cook.

After enjoying a fabulous year of maternity leave with George I am heading back to work part-time.   One of the things I want to do before then is fill my freezer with healthy food for George and some family meals for Charlie and I that can be ready in minutes after those busy busy days.

To make this fun, in the next few weeks we will be setting our first One Handed Cooks ‘Fill Your Freezer Challenge’.  The challenge will benefit almost everyone:

  • Are you also going back to work?
  • Do you want a full freezer ready for after the school holidays?
  • Do you have a baby on the way?
  • Are you trying to be more efficient? – This is a great time and money saver!
  • Or do you just want some nutritious meals that can be ready in minutes?

If so, join me for a week in the kitchen preparing a few nutritious family meals and your baby’s favourite purees and finger foods that will fill up your freezer so you can enjoy that lovely feel good feeling too.  I have chosen healthy meal and snack options to maximise both variety and nutrition. So, if you decide to join in on the fun you freezer will be full with:

  • 2 x nutritious family meals
  • 1 x baby puree
  • 1 x baby/toddler finger food
  • 1 x healthy sweet snack
  • 1 x breakfast cereal for the pantry (optional day)
  • 1 x stock (optional day)

(Although, you can modify the meals and snacks to suit you and your family of course.)

To help you out there will be a booklet of the One Handed Cooks recipes I will be cooking (with some other suggestions if you need some inspiration – but feel free to cook any of your favourite meals).  We will also have some shopping and ingredient lists and a few little tips to help you get organised.

It’s going to something a little like this:

  • Monday: Family meal
  • Tuesday: Finger food – or baby puree
  • Wednesday: Family meal
  • Thursday: Baby puree – or another finger food
  • Friday: Family meal
  • (Optional extra pantry day: Saturday: Breakfast cereal)
  • Sunday: Your reward day

During the challenge I will be sharing photos of my cooking on facebook, twitter and instagram and we’d love for you to share your photos too:

Sounds good! I used to be able to fill my freezer with leftovers, but now my crew are all school age, they’re eating it all up and the freezer goes bare! Looking forward to some inspiration from your challenge.
