George and I went and stayed with a friend recently and her little toddler absolutely loooves her smoothies. Amy would make them at breakfast time adding oats into the mix. I thought this was a great idea and perfect for the blog! I’ve since realised it’s very common and popular to add oats to smoothies and I wish I’d known about it earlier. Delicious! If you like them, oats add a nice flavour and can make your smoothie a complete breakfast helping you stay fuller for longer. It’s perfect for breakfast on the run or perhaps it’s one that a fussy breakfast eater might enjoy.
Tip: Using frozen berries and bananas will help make your smoothie nice and cold without needing to add ice cubes. Perfect for summer.
Nutrition Note: Oats are high in soluble fibre, important for bowel health and helping to maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

This smoothie looks great Jess. I must admit, I’ve added all sorts of ‘extras’ to smoothies in the past – from wheatgerm to psyllium husks… but never oats. Always good to get new, tried-and-tested, ideas. Love to you and George xx

Thanks Leanne. I’ll have to give the wheatgerm and psyllium husks a go too 🙂 Jx

besides bananas, what fruit can be replaced it?

Hi Nancy, the bananas give a lovely creaminess but you don’t have to use them in the smoothie, the berries alone would be fine. Ax

Hi, this may sound a bit silly but when your recipes use rolled oats, are they supposed to be cooked first?

Hi Jess, usually we will say in the recipe if they need to be cooked, otherwise you can just add them without. Ax
